Wanted to love it...
I've been to this live wrestling show for the first time in more than 15 years. Growing up, I was a wrestling fanatic from childhood to my late 20s, when wrestling took a nosedive in the early/mid 2000s. I remember being at Monday Nitro when the outsiders came to take over, seeing Sting plunge down from the rafters, and Bill Goldberg spearing through everyone. While I knew better than to expect anything that amazing, I was pretty disappointed at the lack of anything to get me out of my seat at Clash. The limited t-shirts on 2 tables were shocking to me, with no unique gear or legends memorabilia at all. Not a single Stone Cold, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, or Hulk Hogan shirt. Confessions were so limited and dreadful. I have tried to watch and revive my wrestling love but am so disappointed in the product. The women's wrestling was by a landslide the best part of the card. There were matches with neither wrestler doing anything but strikes and throwing each other into the corner, tons of sloppy brawling. The card was full of PPV matches that resembled what used to come on Saturday morning superstars. Just taking it easy and keeping it basic. Very frustrating when you grew up watching Malenko vs Guerrero and HBK vs Bret Hart in an Iron man match. Every match was forgettable. I even had some 1st time non-wrestling fans with me and could not find anything to explain to them the appeal of why they should suddenly begin watching and become new fans. I hope that WWE can take a good hard look at their product and have a better understanding of their audience and know that they have some die hards like me out there. Give me a few colorful outfits, muscular athletic guys who have personality and know the business, a Shawn Michaels even a John Cena who can play that face character and put on a show. I can only just hope... I really wanted to love it. Guys who grew up as an independent wrestler doing gym shows and a loyal WWF fanatic over 20+ years who are dying to get wrestling back to any semblance of the glory days. And even the ones who had slightly any character or appeal such as Kofi/Orton did not push themselves at all for any fast-paced action and exciting big spots. Even someone like Bam Bam Bigelow, considered a mid-card kind of guy who had an edgy look had a unique personality, style, and rare athleticism that impressed when we could catch high flyers off the top with ease, and did spinning heel kicks and moonsaults off the top. It was as if black clothing, unkempt beards, and tattoos were a requirement to be on the show. There was zero amount of muscular/athletic talent that make you go wow that鈥檚 impressive.
